Excel Tips Tutorial: How to Open and Recover an Unsaved Excel File
Help! I forgot to save my work in Excel. Don't worry, you might be okay. In Microsoft Office 2010 Excel introduced a new feature called Versions. When you are working in Excel, Excel periodically saves your work automatically. However, these saved changes will not take effect on the file saved to your computer, instead it save a “version” of your file. This feature is great because you can open workbooks that you may have accidentally closed without saving. To open and recover an Excel file that you forgot to save follow the steps below.
- Click on File > Info.
- The click on Manage Versions and then click Recover Unsaved Workbooks and the Open dialog box will appear with a list of unsaved draft Excel workbooks. Hopefully you can recover a file you forgot to save.
