Excel Tips Tutorial: How to Convert Values From One Measurement System to Another
Most of us face a situation where data is given in one measurement unit but we need to see that in a different one. For example, the distance from your home to school is given in miles in map, but you feel comfortable measuring distances in Kilometer. What to do, you need a converter from Mile to Kilometer. Or, your laptop’s weight is given in Kilogram in product sheet but you understand Pound better. The good news for you, a straight converter function is there in Excel. Let’s try out.
Say, you need to convert 2 Kg mass to Pound.
Just open an Excel sheet, select a cell, write the convert() function like in below example. Convert() function needs three input values. 1) 2 (2 Kg mass) 2) “kg” (your current measurement unit) 3) “lbm” (your desired measurement unit). Units are to be put within parentheses. Now press enter. You see 4.409 pounds are calculated by the equation immediately.
Using the same function, you can convert any value from one unit to another in the category of Mass & weight, Distance, Time, Pressure, Force and Temperature etc.
