Excel Tips Tutorial: How to Change the Default File Type to Save Excel Workbooks
Suppose you prefer to save your files as Excel 97-2003 Workbook .xls. If you are using a newer version of Excel your files will not be saved in this manner by default but you are able to change the default settings. To do this follow the steps below.
- Click File > Options and the Excel Options dialog box will appear.
- In the Excel Options dialog box click on the Save tab.
- Where it says Save Files in this Format click the drop-down menu and select the type of file that you would like to save your Excel workbooks by default and then click OK.
