Excel For Noobs Tutorial: How to create graphs in Excel
In this tutorial we will show you how you can make charts from different types of data. Charts are useful for different purpose like identifying trends in chronological weather data, representing monthly sales revenue etc.
To begin with charts, lets input data in 2 columns in a excel sheet like below Table - 1. In first column put months in order and in 2nd column put sales revenue values of a business.
Now click and drag your mouse to highlight all the information you have just entered. From the title bar menu, click “insert” and from the “chart” section click on “line type”.
Now click on any type of lines you want to see your data through. Let’s select the first option “Line” in “Line type”. Click on it and you will find that your revenue figures are displayed in a line chart format like that in 1st picture below. If you have had selected “column type”, your chart would be like the 2nd picture below.
Now further modification tips:
- If you want to show the revenue values on each column, just right click on any of the column and select “add data labels”
- If you want to change your chart type any time, just right click on the chart and select “Change series chart type” and then select any type of format you prefer to represent your chart with.
- If you want to change color, width, border etc of your columns or lines, select the chart, select Format menu from title bar and test different settings to get your preferred look.
